Arvada, CO: CounterTrade Products, Inc. announced its participation in Aurora Public Schools’ (APS) third annual Girls Technology Camp. The camp, traditionally held by APS and Hewlett Packard, added APS IT contract holder, CounterTrade, to this year’s list of volunteers. The camp focuses on empowering and educating APS middle school girls through hands-on sessions in areas of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
The camp is a fun way to get girls involved and excited about education. Students enjoy this hands-on learning approach and take away remarkable value. Kevin Riebau of APS told CounterTrade, “This year’s camp was a great success and I know from speaking with some of the girls personally, they were excited about possibilities in science, technology, engineering, and math and had fun while learning something new. Some even said they wanted to stay in 6th grade so they could do it all over again!”
CounterTrade is proud to be part of such an impressive program and believes in empowering students through technological education. CounterTrade’s Education Solutions Consultant, Tanya Tyler, who volunteered at the event, found her experience rewarding and hopes that she and CounterTrade can participate again next year. Tyler remarked, “The third annual Aurora Public Schools Girls’ Technology Camp was such an honor to be part of. I was a team lead for one of the four groups so I was able to interact with the girls in their various sessions.
Sessions were broken out into Snap circuits, Rocketry, Electronic device guts, and a workshop on Mindcraft – which is a 3D program where students picked a plot to build a 3D house on. The Mindcraft workshop was neat because when the girls had completed their houses, they all made up an entire community that the instructor could moderate and interact with. The girls were so engaged and worked together as a team. They learned some valuable skill sets, and had a blast doing it! This is a program that should be offered by all school districts!”
APS Girls Technology Camp is proof that integrating technology and education brings unmatched benefit to learning and instills a sense of excitement in youth. To see pictures and videos of this year’s camp, visit http://aurorak12.org/2013/04/15/middle-school-girls-get-techy-at-annual-stem-camp/.
